Most concrete companies make you sit through a sales visit to find out what a square foot costs. Here it is. The bigger the pour, the lower the rate — and every price includes fiber in every pour, excavation, framing, the pour and expansion joints where required.

We had them extend our driveway and pour a new pad for our outdoor kitchen. Rodney kept everything moving and answered my questions when I called. Job came out great

Dante was really involved with our project. He came out to look at the work himself and called me after to make sure we were good with everything. The driveway extension and patio came out great. Would definitely recommend Parish Outdoor Builders

Really good experience from beginning to end. We did a covered patio with a large concrete slab and it turned out better than I pictured. Rodney was easy to get ahold of and stayed on top of everything

Our backyard was basically just grass before this. Now we have a concrete patio, pergola and a place to put our furniture. Dante stopped by the property during the build and made sure we were happy with how things were going. Very happy with it

We had a gazebo installed and also added onto our concrete patio. Rodney was our project manager and kept us updated when things changed. Everything turned out really nice

We wanted somewhere to hang out outside and this was exactly what we needed. New slab, covered patio and a little pergola area. Looks great and the whole backyard feels different now

Very fair pricing. The best of three quotes. Great work, final product looks good. We did have some installation timing issues. Job lasted a few days longer than originally planned. May not have been totally their fault. I will still recommend to others.

Dante was great to work with. He came out quickly, provided a competitive quote, and maintained timely communication while working together. Some unexpected hiccups arose and his team remained patient and diligent throughout, listening to our needs and adapting accordingly.

Standard on every pour

Fiber goes in every slab we pour. Most bids leave it out.

Fiber reinforcement is thousands of short synthetic fibers mixed into the concrete at the plant, so they end up spread through the entire slab — top, middle and bottom. Most concrete bids you will get in Jefferson do not include it unless you ask, and most homeowners do not know to ask. We put it in every pour, patio to driveway, and it is already in our published price.

Here is why it matters so much. Concrete is at its weakest in the first hours after it is placed. In a Louisiana summer, sun, heat and wind pull water out of the surface faster than the slab can gain strength, and the top shrinks and pulls itself apart. That is where the spiderweb of fine cracks comes from — the kind you notice a few weeks after the crew is gone. Fiber holds the surface together through that window, so those shrinkage cracks mostly never form.

Wire mesh, when a crew uses it at all, has a different problem. It is supposed to sit in the middle of the slab, but it gets walked on and pushed to the bottom during the pour, where it does very little. Fiber cannot end up in the wrong place, because it is everywhere in the mix.

  • Fewer shrinkage cracksHolds the surface together while it cures, which is when the spiderweb cracking starts.
  • Tougher surfaceBetter resistance to chipping, impact and edge breaks from mowers, trailers and dropped equipment.
  • Less scaling and dustingA tighter surface that holds up to Louisiana rain and standing water.
  • Holds together if it cracksFiber keeps any crack that does form tight instead of letting it open up and shift.
  • No upcharge, no askingIt is in every pour and in the price on this page. Compare that line when you compare bids.

To be straight with you: fiber does not replace control joints or a good base, and no concrete is crack-proof. Joints still decide where concrete cracks. Fiber is what keeps the rest of the slab from cracking on its own. Want rebar on top of it for a driveway or heavy load? Ask your project manager to quote it.

Every community in Jefferson Parish has its own permit desk, drainage quirks and kind of job. Each page below covers who issues the permit, the local rules that affect concrete and what we pour there most.

Pouring in Jefferson Parish

What decides a good slab in Jefferson.

Jefferson Parish is mostly slab-on-grade suburbs, split by the river into the East Bank and the West Bank. Many driveways are cracked and sunken after years of settling, and backyards are small and flat, so most of our work here is tear-out and replace, driveway widening, patio extensions and slabs for covers and outdoor kitchens. The ground is low and soft, so grading and drainage matter on every pour.

Permits split by jurisdiction. The parish Building Permits Department covers unincorporated Jefferson, including Metairie, River Ridge, Marrero and Harvey, with an East Bank office in Elmwood and a West Bank office in Marrero. Gretna, Harahan and Westwego run their own permit offices, and Kenner jobs start with the City of Kenner, so the city line matters before we file. Addresses near those lines can look alike on a map, so we confirm which office covers your address before we submit, and we handle the filing and inspections either way.

Know which side of the city line

Unincorporated addresses permit with the parish; Gretna, Harahan and Westwego permit their own work, and Kenner jobs start with the City of Kenner.

Two parish offices

East Bank jobs go through the Elmwood office and West Bank jobs through the Marrero office on Ames Boulevard.

Tear-out is its own line

Most Jefferson jobs replace old concrete, priced at $3.50/sq ft with a $500 minimum on top of the new pour.

State routes need DOTD

A driveway onto Airline Drive (US 61), Jefferson Highway (LA 48), Williams Boulevard (LA 49) or Barataria Boulevard (LA 45) needs a LA DOTD residential access permit.

How we pour it

The four things that decide if a slab lasts.

Base preparation

Organic topsoil stripped, cut to grade, base compacted so the slab bears evenly. Skipping this saves half a day and costs you the patio.

Thickness

Four inches is the residential standard for foot traffic and furniture. Driveways, camper pads and masonry kitchens get more, and the number goes in your written proposal.

Reinforcement

Fiber in every pour, mixed in at the plant to hold a young slab together as it cures. Want rebar on top of that? Ask your project manager to quote it.

Joints and drainage

Control joints cut on time, expansion joints where new meets old, and a deliberate slope so water leaves the slab instead of standing on it.

Concrete is the worst place on your property to hire cheap.

A fence that goes in wrong can be pulled and reset. A slab cannot. Once it cures, a bad pour gets broken out and hauled off, and you pay for the whole thing twice. The bid that comes in thousands under everyone else in Jefferson is usually cheaper for a reason you cannot see from the driveway:

  • No base prep. Organic dirt left in place, nothing compacted. Our clay holds water and moves, and a slab on soft ground settles and cracks in the first wet season.
  • Three inches instead of four. An inch across a 500 sq ft patio is real money to skip, and it is invisible the day it is poured.
  • No fiber in the mix. Most bids leave it out unless you ask. It is what keeps a young slab from spider-cracking as it cures.
  • Water added at the truck. Wetter concrete spreads and finishes easier and ends up weaker, with a surface that dusts and scales.
  • Joints cut late or skipped. Concrete is going to crack. Control joints decide where. Miss the window and the slab picks its own line.
  • Slope toward the house. Standing water against the foundation every time it rains hard.

The long version is in our guide to concrete patios and what Louisiana clay does to a slab.

How it works

Our Jefferson Concrete Process

  1. 1

    Free On-Site Walkthrough

We come out to your Jefferson property, measure the pour, shoot the grade and look at where water goes today. We talk through anything else you might build on or around the slab later, so it gets poured ready for it.

  2. 2

Same Day Proposal (For Most Projects)

For most projects, your full scope of work and one total price are in your inbox the same day as the walkthrough. That price does not change mid job — if we under quoted, that is on us, not you. The only thing that moves it is you changing the scope.

  3. 3

    Permits, HOA And 811

Your project manager handles the city or parish permit, any HOA architectural submittal, and the 811 locate call before anyone digs. You do not make a single one of those calls.

  4. 4

    Prep, Form And Pour

Topsoil stripped, base cut and compacted, forms set to grade, fiber-reinforced concrete poured and finished, control joints cut on time. Old concrete, if any, is broken out and hauled off first.

  5. 5

    Final Walkthrough

We walk the finished slab with you, clean up, and hand over your written three-year workmanship warranty. Keep traffic off it while it cures and it will outlast the house.

Good to know

Jefferson concrete questions.

Who issues concrete permits in Jefferson Parish?

The Jefferson Parish Building Permits Department covers unincorporated areas like Metairie, River Ridge, Marrero and Harvey. Gretna, Harahan and Westwego issue their own permits, and Kenner jobs start with the City of Kenner; we confirm which office covers your address before we submit. A driveway onto a state route also needs a LA DOTD access permit.

Why do so many Jefferson Parish driveways sink and crack?

Older slabs on low, soft ground often settle unevenly over time. We remove the failed concrete, rebuild and compact the base, and pour with fiber and a slope that moves water off the slab.

Why do you put fiber in every pour?

Because concrete is weakest in the first hours after it is placed, and Louisiana heat and wind dry the surface faster than the slab gains strength. That is what causes the spiderweb of fine shrinkage cracks. Fiber mixed in at the plant holds the surface together through that window, toughens it against chipping and scaling, and keeps any crack that does form tight. Most concrete bids do not include fiber unless you ask for it. Ours always do, and it is already in the published price.

How much does a concrete patio cost?

Broom finish concrete is $7.25 a square foot up to 700 square feet, $6.75 from 700 to 1,000 and $6.50 past 1,000, with fiber, excavation, framing, the pour and expansion joints included. A 20 by 25 foot patio (500 square feet) is about $3,625. Stained is $7 a square foot more, stamped and stained $27 more. The minimum is $1,750, and tear-out of old concrete is a separate line item at $3.50 a square foot with a $500 minimum.

Is rebar included?

Every pour includes fiber mixed in at the plant, plus expansion joints where required. Rebar is not included in the published price. If you want it, ask your project manager and it gets quoted into your proposal.

Are footings included under patio cover or pavilion posts?

Yes. When a pavilion or patio cover goes on the slab, a concrete footing sized to the specific post is included in the structure price.

What warranty comes with the concrete?

A written three-year workmanship warranty. Concrete will develop hairline cracks — that is what control joints are for — but if our workmanship fails, we come back and make it right.

Can I finance a concrete project?

Yes. We finance through HFS Financial, our sole financing partner, from $3,000 up to $450,000 with terms up to 30 years. Checking your rate is a soft inquiry that does not affect your credit score.

Why is your price higher than the lowest bid I got?

Because the lowest bid usually skips something you cannot see once the slab is poured: base prep, a full four inches, fiber in the mix or control joints cut on time. Our price includes fiber, excavation, framing, the pour and expansion joints where required, and the proposal price is the price — no change orders unless the scope actually changes. If we under quoted, that is on us, not you.

How messy is the job, and who handles the details?

One project manager runs your job start to finish. We look at how the truck gets to the pour during the walkthrough, 811 marks the utilities before anyone digs, and any old concrete is broken out and hauled off. The crew cleans up before the final walkthrough. Tell us about anything along the way you want protected — sprinkler heads, flower beds, a fence gate — and it goes in the plan.
