What we pour

Flatwork, start to finish.

Concrete is the cheapest part of a backyard and the part most likely to ruin it. Everything below goes over stripped, cut and compacted base, with reinforcement inside the slab and control joints cut on time.

How we pour it

The four things that decide if a slab lasts.

Base preparation

Organic material stripped, cut to grade, base compacted so the slab bears evenly. Skipping this saves half a day and costs you the patio.

Thickness

Four inches is the residential standard for foot traffic and furniture. Vehicle loads and masonry outdoor kitchens get more, and the number goes in your quote.

Reinforcement

Steel inside the slab, supported so it ends up in the concrete rather than lying under it. Our clay moves; reinforcement is what holds the slab together when it does.

Joints and drainage

Control joints cut early and spaced for the pour, isolation where new meets old, and a deliberate slope so water leaves instead of standing.

The long version is in our guide to concrete patios in Baton Rouge and what Louisiana clay does to a slab.

What it costs

Concrete projects start at $2,500.

Price moves with square footage, thickness, reinforcement, finish, how close a truck can get to the pour, and whether the job includes grading or drainage work. You get a firm number in writing after we walk the site — not a range over the phone.

What are we pouring?

Includes reinforced concrete with wire mesh, fiber and rebar — poured to carry the posts if a cover, pergola or kitchen goes on top.

A typical backyard patio runs 400 to 600 square feet.

$4,000 Estimated concrete cost

Patio pads, driveways and driveway extensions are $10.00 a square foot, reinforced with wire mesh, fiber and rebar so the slab can carry a structure. Patio extensions and walkways are $8.50 a square foot with wire mesh and fiber. Minimum concrete project is $2,500.

This is an estimate for planning only, not a quote. Real pricing moves with thickness, site access for the truck, how much grading or removal has to happen first, the finish you pick and what the ground looks like when we walk it. Every number we put in writing comes after an on-site measurement, and there is no deposit to get one.

Concrete is the worst place on your property to hire cheap.

A fence that goes in wrong can be pulled and reset. A slab cannot. Once it is down and cured, there is no repairing your way out of a bad pour — it gets broken out and hauled off, and you pay for the whole thing twice. The bid that comes in thousands under everyone else is usually cheaper for a reason you cannot see from the driveway:

    • No base prep. Organic dirt left in place, nothing compacted. Our clay holds water and moves, and a slab bearing on soft ground settles and cracks in the first wet season.
    • Three inches instead of four. An inch of concrete across a 500 foot patio is real money to skip, and it is invisible the day it is poured.
    • Reinforcement that does nothing. Wire mesh laid flat on the dirt and poured over sits under the slab instead of inside it. Steel only works where it ends up in the concrete.
    • Water added at the truck. A wetter mix spreads faster and finishes easier. It also drops the strength and leaves you a surface that dusts, scales and spalls.
    • Joints cut late or skipped. Concrete is going to crack. Control joints decide where. Miss the window and the slab picks its own line, usually across the middle.
    • Slope toward the house. Water has to leave. A pad that drains the wrong way gives you standing water against the foundation and a wet slab edge every time it rains hard.

Every one of those shows up a year or two later, long after the cheap crew has moved on. We would rather lose the job on price than be the reason you pour twice.

    The fine print, plainly

These are estimates for planning only. Financing is offered through our lending partners Acorn and Lyon Financial, not by Parish Outdoor Builders, and every loan is subject to the lender's credit approval. The 7.24% APR shown is an example rate used to illustrate a payment — your actual rate, term, payment and eligibility depend on your credit profile, the loan amount and the lender's underwriting, and not every applicant will qualify. Financing through Acorn and Lyon Financial runs from project amounts of $1,000 up to $450,000, and the lender's program approves credit scores as low as 610 — approval is still theirs to give and not every applicant will qualify. The program carries no early payoff fee, so a loan can be paid down or paid off at any time without a prepayment penalty. Prequalifying uses a soft credit check that does not affect your credit score; a hard inquiry may occur only if you choose to complete a full application. Nothing here is a commitment to lend, an offer of credit, or financial advice.

    Our promise

We are not perfect. We just do not leave.

On a job with this many moving parts, something will eventually go sideways. A delivery runs late. A pour does not finish the way we wanted. What I will not do is disappear when it happens. If something is not right, you call your project manager and it gets handled. If it is bigger than that, I come look at it myself.

We are going to make mistakes. We are not going to stop until you are completely happy.

Could not be happier with the patio cover they built for us. We use the space almost every night now. The concrete work came out really nice too. Our dog even chased Rodney around the yard for a minute 😂

Dante came by a couple times while they were building ours and wanted to see how everything was coming along. He actually noticed something we wanted changed before we even said anything. That was nice to see from the owner

Our backyard was basically just grass before this. Now we have a concrete patio, pergola and a place to put our furniture. Dante stopped by the property during the build and made sure we were happy with how things were going. Very happy with it

    Ready when you are

Pour it once, pour it right.

We walk the yard, look at where your water goes, and put a firm number in writing. No deposit to get a price.

Optional, and it comes off the job

The biggest hiccup on jobsites? A lack of design planning.

As much as we would like to, neither we nor any other contractor you choose can read your mind. That is why we take the design process so seriously. We will not build a single thing until you have seen an immersive 3D design rendering of your exact backyard and approved it.

Whether you choose us or another contractor, we think this is a necessity — which is why we offer our design service as a standalone package. Not sure which contractor you want to use? Take advantage of this package first, and if you do choose us, the price is applied to your project.

    The design package

Your backyard, before it is built

    $1,800 credited to your build

    • A 3D design mockup showing the build in your backyard
    • An immersive 3D walkthrough video — move through the space as if it is already completed
    • Your fence, your treeline, your trees. No stock images
    • See the bigger picture, so you can decide whether you truly like that ceiling finish or that tile you had in mind
    • The full $1,800 comes off the price of your project should you decide to sign with us.

Choose another contractor? You will know they are fully prepared to build exactly what you want. We hand them 2D construction plans, material takeoffs and the 3D renderings — leaving you without a misunderstanding.

    Before you sign anything

The cheapest bid is rarely the cheapest job.

Quality is remembered long after the number is forgotten. Everybody in this parish knows somebody who saved a few thousand dollars up front and paid for it twice. Here is what you are actually taking on when the bid is low because the contractor is not licensed, not insured, and not planning to be around.

The risk of hiring an unlicensed, fly‑by‑night contractor
    • Fines and stop‑work orders. The city or parish can red‑tag an unpermitted structure mid‑build. The work stops, the fines are yours, and in some cases what is already up has to come back down at your expense.
    • An injury in your yard becomes your problem. If a crew is working without workers’ compensation and somebody gets hurt on your property, you can end up the one being claimed against — and your homeowner’s policy is what they come looking for.
    • No real recourse when the work is bad. An unlicensed contractor answers to no licensing board. Your only path is civil court, and an LLC that dissolves on Friday has nothing left to collect on Monday. We take our 5‑star rating seriously and we would rather fix a job than lose one.
    • A lien on your house for money you already paid. If he does not pay his lumber yard or his subs, they can file a lien against your property — even when you paid him in full.
    • A denied insurance claim after the first storm. Carriers ask whether a structure was permitted and engineered. A cover attached to your house that was never engineered for Louisiana wind load is the one they will look at hardest.
    • Trouble at resale. Unpermitted work shows up in the inspection. It gets discounted, renegotiated, or it kills the deal outright, years after you thought the job was finished.
    • A warranty is only worth the company behind it. A written warranty from a business that is gone in eighteen months is a piece of paper.
    • An abandoned job and a deposit you cannot chase. Half a slab, an open trench, and a phone number that stops working is a common enough story around here that you have probably heard it.
    • Strangers in your yard nobody vetted. Day labor hired that morning, no background, no accountability, working ten feet from your back door.
How we are set up so none of that is your problem
    • State licensed. Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors, LSLBC #063699. Verifiable before you sign.
    • Over $2,500,000 in coverage. General liability and workers’ compensation. The certificate of insurance is attached to every proposal automatically — you do not have to ask for it.
    • We pull the permits. Parish permitting, setback and floodplain review, engineering on the covered structure, 811 locates and inspections are handled by your project manager and priced into the job.
    • A written workmanship warranty. Three years on structures, lifetime on fences, from a company that has been at the same shop on Airline Highway since 2017.
    • One project manager, start to finish. Same person from the walkthrough to the last sweep. Not a salesman who hands you off.
    • Our reviews are printed in full. Good and bad, word for word, with the bad one left in. Go read them.
